Set in 144 acres, the Park's main features are two picturesque lakes, which along with river meadows, woodland and tranquil banks of the Great Ouse river, give a great variety of scenery and makes for a great day out. Harrold-Odell Country Park is owned and managed by Bedford Borough Council. Park staff work in close co-operation with the Friends of Harrold-Odell Country Park. This co-operation takes many forms, most notable of which include conservation work and fund-raising. Conservation work has resulted in significate lengths of the lake banks being protected with spilings. This involves weaving a willow fence that is placed in the water ahead of the banks to protect them from the erosive force of waves. Fund-raising has enabled the Park to repplace the bird hide destroed by arson with a new and enlarged facility. THere are many other ways in which volunteer 'Friends' work with the Park Rangers.
