Stable cottage is a comfortable, tastefully furnished cottage on one level ideal for a couple or a single person. Your dog is welcome too. There is under floor heating throughout the property making it particularly warm and cosy in winter. It has a fully equipped home from home kitchen and dining table with a view out over the stable yard. There is a comfortable lounge area with a smart television and built in DVD with a small DVD library, some board games and plenty of tourist literature and maps. The quiet and cosy double bedroom has lots of storage with a luxurious and spacious shower room nextdoor. Luxury linen and towels are provided.
We have a fantastic pub in the village (The Red Lion, Long Compton) it has log fires, an excellent menu and is within easy walking distance of Stable Cottage. The area is popular with walkers and cyclists due to the number of footpaths and bridleways nearby including the Cotswold Way and the Darcy Dalton Way. We have numerous walks from the cottage, including circular walks with pubs strategically positioned!
Location
Stable Cottage is virtually equidistant from the beautiful and ancient market towns of Chipping Norton, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Shipston on Stour, all of which are 5-15minutes drive away and have a fantastic choice of shops, tea rooms and pubs. We are also only 20 minutes from the historic town of Chipping Campden and very popular tourist villages of Bourton on the Water, Broadway and Burford.
Slightly further afield is Stratford upon Avon with its picturesque river and canal basin. It is, of course, Shakespeare’s birthplace and home to the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre (known locally as the RSC). 'Adam's Farm' is just half an hour away.
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, seat of the Duke of Marlborough, is about 25minutes in the opposite direction and 15 minutes further on you arrive in the ancient city of Oxford where you can wander around the historic Oxford colleges (famous for Inspector Morse), punt on the river, or shop until you drop! If shopping is your thing there is also a retail outlet at Bicester Village again about half an hour drive from here.
Coventry Cathedral is about 45 minutes away and there is a whole days entertainment at Warwick Castle which is approximately 35 minutes away.
Nearer to home there is plenty of stunning scenery to explore on foot using our extensive footpath network and not forgetting to stop for refreshments in one of the many local pubs, all of which offer great food. The Rollright Stones are literally 10 minutes walk from the cottage and National Trust's Chastleton House is 4 miles away. You can happlily spend a week visiting National Trust properties with Snowshill Manor, Hidcote Gardens, Upton House, Charlecote Park, Coughton Court, Sherbourne Estate (previous home to BBC Spring, Autumn and Winter watch) and Lodge Park all less than 1 hours drive away.
We are keen animal lovers and if you are too you are welcome to explore our smallholding and meet the menagerie, they are all friendly and used to people. We have two rescue donkeys, Billy and O'Mally who love to play and roll in the paddock. They enjoy fuss and attention, Billy is brave and a cheeky chappie whilst O'Mally is more warey and can take a while to trust you. We have 4 rescue goats from the RSPCA Gary, Gertie, Sprinkles and Annie who love a treat and clambering around on their climbing frame. We also have lots of guinea fowl charging around pointlessly, 5 peacocks, ducks, geese, chickens and some beautiful cockerels, Charles, Brian and Jimmy (they are shut away at night so your sleep won't be disturbed!). We also have 2 adorable dogs; Izzy, the mad Cocker Spaniel, who will chase a ball until she drops and Bea, the unusual mongrel, she came from the Dogs Trust and had been a breeding dog in a puppy farm, she is a nervous but sweet soul
Chris is an enthusiastic bee keeper and will happily chat to you about his bees and even lend a suit if you fancy a look at them with him-they are tucked away in our big field so won't worry you.
We also have plenty of wildlife and lots of beautiful birds, including an owl nestbox camera if the time of year is right. If you are interested to know more please just ask.
