Holidays to treasure in the heart of the Cumbrian Countryside. Long Byres offer six self-contained cottages with fantastic scenery, walking and countryside for all the family to enjoy.

Located within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Long Byres offer six self-catered holiday cottages, converted from a former farm Byre. Enjoying beautiful scenery and walking right on your doorstep, you can relax and soak up the surroundings or get exploring with Hadrian’s wall and many other attractions close by. The cottages are situated on Talkin Head Farm, which runs a herd of native Exmoor ponies and a small flock of sheep. Every cottage has views towards the Lake District or Geltsdale Fell and there is a large, shared garden for everybody to enjoy.

Hawthorn Cottage is one of our two largest cottages and the second cottage at Long Byres. Providing beautiul views out across Talkin Head Farm and the surrounding countryside it includes a spacious open plan kitchen/dining room and living room which opens out onto a stone patio in the shared garden. There is one master bedroom and two family bedrooms. The master bedroom is situated downstairs and looks out across the beatiful views of the farm and benefits from an en-suite. The two family rooms are built upstairs into the eaves and provide quirky cosy bunk beds. In addition to the en-suite for the master bedroom a family bathroom is provided on the entrance level. Outside, the cottage benefits from private access into the shared garden and further patio and seating area.

Additional Directions Information

Exit the M6 at J43 and follow signs to Brampton. Once in Brampton you will pick up the B6413 signposted for Castle Carrock and Talkin Tarn. Follow this road until you see signs for the village of Talkin. Once in Talkin take the road to the left of the Blacksmiths Arms and after 400 yards turn right into a small road signposted Talkin Head. Long Byres is about half a mile along this road.

Visitors arriving from the North East via the A69 please note that the road to Talkin is not accessible from the Brampton by-pass. You should drive into Brampton and then follow signs to Castle Carrock and Talkin Tarn.
