Farm-based Camping
27 July 2021
What better way to celebrate the great outdoors than to sleep under canvas, peeking at the stars before you zip yourself into your sleeping bag for the night. With the warm summer months stretching ahead, it’s time to dig out your tent and plan yourself a refreshing camping trip.
Camping and glamping holidays in the UK are now extremely popular, so do your research and book the site you’d love to stay at in good time. Search in advance for a camp site that offers the kind of experience you’re looking for – a large site with lots of facilities will be great if you have a family but perhaps not the vibe if you’re visualising a quiet, relaxing break. And do check the rules and small print before you book so there are no awkward surprises on arrival.
Farm Stay camping holidays offer holiday makers the opportunity to enjoy the best that the UK countryside has to offer, sampling rural life and spending quality time in nature.
Here are five of Farm Stay’s finest camping options to whet your appetite…
Humble Bee Farm, North Yorkshire
Not far from Scarborough in North Yorkshire, Humble Bee Farm’s spacious camping and caravan site is well equipped to ensure families have everything they need on site. Pitches are suitable for small to medium-sized tents and there are two shower and toilet blocks, a shop for essentials and access to fire pits. Children can burn off their energies on the play area or on the football field, and there’s access to country walks from the farm. Nearby attractions include stunning beaches, cliff top walks, ancient castles, theme parks, and stately homes.
Brook Meadow Farm, Leicestershire
Offering the perfect location for a camping break with lots to do on site, Brook Meadow Farm is close to Market Harborough in Leicestershire’s rolling countryside. This spacious campsite is surrounded by woodland, fields planted with crops and quiet meadows, home to grazing cattle. Thoughtfully planted hedging offers shelter and privacy for individual tents, and you can choose a pitch within the camping field or beside the fishing lake which is available for guest use. It even has its own an open air cinema!
Lower Hill Farm, Shropshire
A working livestock farm set in the beautiful hillside of Wenlock Edge in unspoilt Shropshire countryside is the location of a peaceful caravan and camping site where the pitches are terraced on the hillside so that everyone can enjoy a panoramic view. You’ll have access to a new woodfired pizza oven and firepits are available for hire. An onsite shop stocks essentials for your stay, including local fresh produce, but don’t miss the chance to order a farmhouse take-away breakfast! With its five onsite fishing pools, Lower Hill Farm is a must for anglers!
Palace Farm, Kent
At Palace Farm near Doddington, you’ll be pitching your tent in a green field in the beautiful Kent Downs Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), with nature and wildlife as your neighbours. It’s an area that’s favoured both by walkers and cyclists.
Facilities on this small green field camping site include hot showers, flushing toilets and a washing up area. It is one of the few camp sites in Kent which allow fires in fire pits on site with wood to purchase from a local woodman. The owners are especially proud of their environmental credentials and have been awarded a Green Tourism Gold award.
Marshwood Farm Camping, Wiltshire
Set on working 500 acre arable and sheep farm in beautiful Wiltshire countryside, not far from Salisbury, is Marshwood Farm and its campsite. The latter evolved from the first Shepherd’s Hut the owners, who are passionate about conservation, bought to run alongside their B&B. Now they offer six large grass pitches for visiting campers, as well as in-situ bell tents. Facilities include showers, toilets and a washing up facility, and firepits are available to hire.
