Dovedale is the name given to the section of the Dove valley between Milldale and Thorpe Cloud, the conical hill which guards the entrance to the valley with amazing views from its summit. Here in what is known as the White Peak you will find some of the most stunning limestone gorge scenery available in England.
The beautiful river Dove – well known for trout fishing – was immortalised by Izaak Walton in his classic 17th century book 'The Compleat Angler'. The river is flanked by steep cliffs, hosting numerous caves, crags and rock pillars such as Ilam Rock. The famous romantic stepping stones can be found at the point where Dovedale meets Lindale; not a place to visit on a sunny summer’s Sunday – unless you like crowds!
After a hard day’s walking and climbing in the fresh air you will be in need of some refreshments before heading back to your B&B for a well earned rest. But you won’t have to look far as Dovedale offers a great selection of eating places, from restaurants and tearooms to family friendly pubs, all serving local Derbyshire dishes.
