Why Somerset

Not only famous for it's Cheese and Cider - Somerset has a diverse landscape waiting to be explored.

From the Somerset Levels to the hills of Exmoor, there is something to offer everyone. Famous landmarks include Cheddar Gorge, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury (and the Festival!), Bath, the County town of Taunton. For families we have the beach resorts of Weston-super-Mare and Brean/Burnham on Sea, stretching down to the picturesque West Somerset Coast and the start of the South West Coastal Path at Minehead. For walking, a diverse landscape includes the Mendip and Quantock Hills, and Exmoor, offering an opportunity to spot a large variety of wildlife.
Other large attractions include the West Somerset Railway, stretching from Bishops Lydeard and following the coast to Minehead.

Yeovilton is the home of the Fleet Air Arm Museum, and the Somerset Levels Visitor Centre at Stoke St. Gregory gives you the opportunity to see the craft of Willow Basket Making. Garden lovers are spoilt for choice, with award winning Hestercombe House near Taunton well worth a visit, and South Somerset gardens including East Lambrook Manor, Tintinhull and Lytes Cary to mention but a few.

Visit the National Trust's Montacute House and Dunster Castle for a memorable and historic day out.

Somerset also offers a food lovers paradise, with many farm shops selling local cheese and cider, and a wealth of local produce - you can watch cider being made at several locations (Sheppy's Cider at Taunton, Rich's Cider at Mark to name but two), and the Cheddar Cheese Company in Cheddar Gorge gives you the opportunity to see the cheese being made.
